Even though you’re now ready and excited to go, you still have several steps to take before your first class. You need to sign up for orientation, make arrangements to get to the college, find your way around campus, choose and sign up for your classes, and buy books, supplies, and equipment.
In addition, if you plan to live on campus or anywhere else away from home, you also have some packing and moving ahead of you. You may need to arrange for housing and find a roommate, whether you live on or off campus.
If you are living away from home, you need to decide how you will move your belongings and how you will travel. And regardless of where you plan to live, you need to look into the various meal plans that the college offers and choose one that makes the most sense for you.
These steps take time—more, in fact, than you probably realize. Whatever steps you take, always try to take them on schedule—or even ahead of schedule!
When preparing for your first year of college, think ahead to the end of the college year and to any other trips you might be taking—for instance, holiday and vacation travel. By planning your travel arrangements in advance, you may be able to save a lot of money.
